Flippin' heck it's actually happened....you're engaged!
Firstly a huge giddy cuddle and congratulations from me, River founder of Booja-Booja Events. What a way to end 2020 with a large dose of love! You are probably feeling all sorts of things right now- excited, overwhelmed, loved up, scared- and that is 100% normal.
Getting engaged is big next step in your life so I have put together a handy guide to help you navigate what to do next if you..well, if you are not quite sure :)
Let's begin shall we?
1. PAUSE, ENJOY THE MOMENT.
If you are reading this the moment has probably already happened but i'll say it anyway as I think it's important. Be present and really drink in this special moment, no need to rush into announcing your engagement straight away or creating Pintrest boards. Allow you and your new fiance to take in the moment together just you two.
2. SHARE THE NEWS WITH YOUR NEAREST AND DEAREST
Make sure you let your nearest and dearest know you are engaged straight from you. You may want to see them face to face or if not possible facetime. You don't want them to find out through Instagram that you are engaged. Take a moment to think how you want to let them know the news
3. GET A MANICURE (IF THAT’S YOUR JAM)
Everyone is going to want to see your ring… whether that’s a flash over a glass of celebratory bubbles or a public post on social media. I also guarantee that you’ll be staring at your own hands constantly, so you may as well treat yourself to a mani. My only tip would be don’t think you have to do ‘bridal’ style, go for whatever colour you feel great in and flash that rock ’til your hearts content.
4. DOES THE RING FIT?
Sometimes it ain't a perfect fit. Just head to your jewelers and get it resized, the last thing you want is it falling down the drain. It only takes a few hours to a couple of days so you won't be exasperated from your shiny thing for too long. You may also want to look at getting it insured. I know it's a bit boring but necessary admin.
5. GET SOME ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS TAKEN
It may seem cheesy but you will be so glad you did it especially in the years to come. If you are like me and my partner we don't actually have that many photos of us together so having a little couple shoot can be super fun thing to do. I am in love with Aimee Laoise's work so check her out.
6. HAVE AN ENGAGEMENT CELEBRATION!
Before getting knees deep in planning make sure you really celebrate, after all getting engaged is definitely worth raising a glass to! Get your friends and family round for a celebration dinner or drinks. If that's not your style (or we are still in lockdown god forbid!) arrange an extra special date night with your fiancé.
7. HAVE THE BUDGET TALK
Sit down with a cuppa and talk numbers. What is your budget? This will help to focus you when it comes to planning the big day. This will determine how many guests you can realistically afford to invite
8. CHOOSE A DATE IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE DATE.
Now this doesn't have to be an exact date it can just be next summer or 2022. It will help to have an answer as people will be forever asking you. It also helps to put a mental note in peoples diary to save the date.
9. DREAM (a lot)
Start dreaming about your perfect wedding. Get your pintrest board going to gather inspo, have fun and indulge in wedding magazines, blogs, wedding movies. Collect ideas that inspire you and to learn what you want—and don't want—in your wedding.
10. INVITE THE BOOJA-BOOJA TUK TUK.
It would be rude not to include our little tuk tuk in this list! Dates fill up fast so if your heart is set on having The Booja-Booja Tuk Tuk at your wedding we would love to hear your plans. Vegan wedding or not little Pinkie makes sure all your guests have a wonderful day of ice cream eating.
11. HAVE FUN AND....RELAX!
There is no rush, take your time get a massage, spend quality time together. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event purely about you and your fiancé. You are allowed to enjoy it!
